“The Kids Were Wrong” by Memoryhouse // The Slideshow Effect (2012)
Just when I thought it was safe to stop keeping an eye peeled for new jams from my favorite bands (for a while at least), Memoryhouse goes and drops this upbeat, dreamy, jangle pop taster from their forthcoming album, “The Slideshow Effect”. It’s upbeat stylistic shift is immediately noticeable and also, quite exciting. They hold onto the dream pop sounds, but lean away from the ambient structures of previous releases and head towards something closer to a jangle pop sound. In addition to the familiarity of Memoryhouse’s excellent previous output, I’m almost reminded of bands like The Sundays and The Go-Betweens, and that’s something that makes me quite happy.
